NL(English below): De sectie Metabole Diagnostiek UMC Utrecht voert patiëntgebonden onderzoek uit naar afwijkingen in het metabolisme van patiënten die verdacht worden van een erfelijke stofwisselingsziekte. Een diagnose leidt steeds vaker tot een effectieve behandeling, die ook op het laboratorium wordt gevolgd. Eerst wordt analytisch-chemisch onderzoek van lichaamsvloeistoffen (urine, plasma, liquor, bloedspots) uitgevoerd. Het voorkomen van afwijkende stofwisselingsproducten en/of abnormale concentraties van normale metabolieten in genoemde fysiologische vloeistoffen vormt de basis voor de uiteindelijke diagnose.

EN:The Metabolic Diagnostics Section conducts patient-specific studies of metabolic abnormalities in patients suspected of having an inherited metabolic disease. A diagnosis increasingly leads to effective treatment, which is also followed up in the laboratory. First, analytical-chemical examination of body fluids (urine, plasma, liquor, blood spots) is performed. The occurrence of abnormal metabolic products and/or abnormal concentrations of normal metabolites in said physiological fluids forms the basis for the final diagnosis.
