About Welkom Global South

“Welkom Global South” was established to assist newcomers from the Global South, specifically targeting students and the spouses of knowledge migrants who primarily come from Asia and Africa. We provide “Customized legal advice and Tailor-made personal service” to these newcomers, preferably through face-to-face meetings, though we can also conduct video calls before they arrive in the Netherlands. The organization aims to be a supportive resource, helping newcomers with tasks such as opening a bank account, obtaining health insurance, finding temporary employment and housing, and navigating local procedures. We also advise on available facilities, family life, and helpful activities, such as language classes. Additionally, we inform newcomers of their rights and obligations and, when necessary, offer student mentoring while addressing issues like discrimination, loneliness, burnout, and feelings of rejection. Welkom Global South seeks to tailor these onboarding activities into welcome packages developed in consultation with each client.
