At Tolhuijs we have a different idea about design. We are convinced that waste material has huge value and it deserves a second life, by thinking out the box we came up with solutions that can make this happen. That is why we want to use our innovative and beautiful products to lead awareness and consciousness about sustainability across the globe. We work hard to be sure that our products are balanced between sustainability, beautiful design and social impact. Sustainability needs beauty, and beauty without positive impact is not fun. Only after reaching a perfect balance we can offer stylish and unique products with amazing stories behind them. Since the starting we have been ensuring that our raw materials get a completely new function through a simple adjustment. In 2012 our “Newaste” program was started to pre-cycle waste from major manufacturers, by pre-cycling we take advantage of the hidden value of waste material before it gets recycled. Recycling is good, but only ideal if the material is completely useless. Our innovative supply chain creates value for the environment because with clever use and reuse of materials, recycling would become less necessary. Therefore, we contribute to extend life of equipment, save unnecessary energy consumption, and maintaining the quality of the material. Additionally, we create value for our suppliers because their waste represents a cost for them. They buy on large scale precious and quality material to make their great products, each piece that they throw away remains costly for them and for our environment. That is why it is attractive for manufacturers to be part of our cost advantages because at the same time they can improve their processes in a sustainable way. We believe in humans and social impact is important for us. That is why we produce in Dutch Prisons and Social Workshops. We are convinced that we offer more than simply objects; We offer amazing stories embedded into beautiful products.
