About The Origin Institute

The Origin Institute is a research and innovation institute designing ways for people to live well on a finite planet.

We work at the intersection of everyday practices, human wellbeing, and environmental limits, helping turn complex research into systems that can be lived with in real life. Our work focuses on how people live, age, learn, care, and use resources in real contexts from coastal and local communities to public services and education settings. We combine field-based design, participatory methods, and applied scientific expertise to develop solutions that are usable, dignified, and sustainable over time.

We collaborate with communities, researchers, educators, public organisations, and mission-driven companies, often working through living labs, pilots, and applied research projects where social, environmental, and technical constraints meet.

Our role in EU-funded projects typically includes system framing, co-creation, stakeholder engagement, learning design, adoption, and real-world implementation ensuring innovation moves beyond concepts and prototypes into everyday life.
