About Surge Twente

We are Surge Twente, a multi-disciplinary student team from Enschede working on one goal: to accelerate the maritime energy transition by engineering high-performance, methanol-powered foiling vessels that prove sustainable fuels are the future of shipping and yachting.

For the past decade, we were known as Solar Boat Twente, pioneers of the sun. We mastered the art of foiling and pushed solar technology to its limit. But the world is changing, and the maritime and yachting industry needs more than just sun; it needs a scalable, high-density energy source. We’ve traded our solar panels for green methanol fuel cells to tackle the sustainable challenges of shipping and yachting. We still foil above the waves, but now, we carry the spark of a new energy era.

We don't just build boats; we build the evidence that a clean maritime and yacht industry is ready to surge forward.
