About Studio Maren Bruin

Maren Bruin is an illustrator and graphic designer living in a greyblue Swedish wooden house in Oosterwold. (Flevoland, The Netherlands). She attended the School of Visual Arts in Utrecht. From brand identities to (editorial) illustrations, she loves turning a story into an inspiring visual.

Illustration Playful, expressive, good-natured – illustrations by Dutch artist Maren Bruin appeal to both the heart and the head. Her colourful, abstract and slightly naïve style pleasantly draws the viewer in but is underpinned by a strong conceptual approach to effectively communicate her client’s message.

Based in Amsterdam, Maren majored in graphic design at the School of Arts in Utrecht but her passion for painting has led to a successful career in illustration. However, that sense of concept and composition honed while studying graphic design carries over into her artwork. Inspiration for Maren comes from human emotions and nature which often appear in her work.

Approach Painting digitally using Photoshop and Procreate, Maren works with graphic forms and negative space for a bold composition, often inviting the viewer to take part in a daydream. She likes an energetic, complementaire palette to set the tone.

Style Maren works in an abstract style which makes her work perfect for editorial, publishing and advertising projects. Her flat, elongated characters have a strong graphic presence whether they’re leaping into the sky or standing somewhere gazing.
