De stichting Dichter bij Huis is in 2005 opgericht door de directie van de toenmalige Amsterdamse woningcorporatie stichting de Dageraad, later opgegaan in de Alliantie. De stichting beheert middelen die afkomstig zijn uit de tijd van de rechtsvoorganger van stichting de Dageraad, woningbouwvereniging de Dageraad. De stichting stelt zich ten doel om particuliere initiatieven, gericht op het langer zelfstandig wonen van mensen met uiteenlopende beperkingen (fysiek, financieel, psychisch) in de regio Amsterdam te ondersteunen.
