About Sphere of Sound

Sphere of Sound is a sound-led experience design studio based in Groningen, working internationally across museums, healthcare, XR, immersive installations and wellbeing.

Founded by Jelmer Althuis, the studio designs spatial and immersive audio experiences that do more than support a story: they shape how people feel, move, remember and connect.

We believe sound is where experience begins. Before an image is understood or a word is interpreted, sound already affects the body. It can create calm, tension, focus, intimacy, scale and presence. That is why we place sound early in the design process, not as decoration at the end.

Our work spans 100+ projects, including award-winning immersive audio for cultural heritage, long-term content development for VRelax in healthcare environments, spatial audio for XR, and high-performance experience design for organisations including TeamNL/NOC*NSF.

From concept and dramaturgy to field recording, composition, spatial sound design, implementation and final delivery, we design the sonic layer that makes an experience feel real.

Selected work includes Oorlog Dichtbij at the A-kerk in Groningen, an immersive WWII exhibition where sound played a central role in creating emotional proximity and audience engagement.

For museums, XR creators, healthcare innovators and organisations designing for human attention, wellbeing or transformation, Sphere of Sound helps create experiences that are not only seen or heard, but felt.
