About SolHyve – energy-plus climate facade
Ongoing product development:
SolHyve will be a modular climate facade that generates on-site renewable energy (solar, geothermal & nanowind). It comprises energy-efficient ventilation with heat & cold recovery. Combined with geothermal collectors in the foundation zone, this facade system: ▪ Generates clean electricity (through BIPV & nanowind), ▪ Produces renewable heat for space heating + hot water, ▪ Provides controllable, graded solar shading, ▪ Provides both active and passive space cooling. For user comfort, incoming fresh air is spread evenly through the interior, while minimizing duct space.
SolHyve thus provides a reactive, powerful climatization system that is well-suited for buildings in continental climates with large seasonal variations in the weather circumstances. In a simplified version, the SolHyve system is suited for buildings in more moderate climates. In an adapted version, the system is also suitable for buildings in a (sub)tropical climate. User-steered regulation or automated regulation of the indoor climate per room is possible.
The SolHyve system is appropriate both for new construction and for renovation.
In new-build projects – under optimal terrain circumstances – the SolHyve facade can render the building energy-negative, i.e. produce more energy than the building itself requires per year. The produced surplus energy can be used in the neighbourhood, for charging electric bicycles / EVs, etc. The system contributes to carbon-neutral / carbon-negative building.
In renovation, SolHyve can be used for energy upgrading of existing buildings (high-rise, mid-rise or low-rise). Existing buildings can be retrofitted to improve their energy performance and reduce their GHG emissions. In certain renovation projects, the “add-on” mounting method is possible: the facade system can then be mounted as a “second skin” around the existing building envelope. This may allow for partially or fully continued building occupancy during a renovation.
