Just outside the city of Utrecht, Slot Zuylen is one of the oldest castles along the Vecht river. The castle has a rich history, passing through various families and boasting some influential inhabitants. During a visit to Slot Zuylen, you can experience daily life in a real castle.

The medieval castle has been converted into a country house in the 18th century. The best known resident was Belle van Zuylen (Isabelle de Charrière), writer, composer and feminist avant la lettre. Her most famous quote is “I have no talent for subordination”.

For over 60 years the museum castle has been open to the public. Concerts, events and guided tours makes the past come to life.
