About SKIJAR
SKIJAR is an event which was first organised by the Dutch Jewish student organisation IJAR. The exact year in which the first Skijar event took place can’t be traced because of a lack of archives. The first SKIJAR trip we know of was organised in 1997 by Daniel Simon and took place from 25 January to 2 February. In 2002 SKIJAR was given a new lease of life by Nathalie and Uri van Gelder in Serre Chevallier. The trip was a huge success and participants and former IJAR Amsterdam chairmen Maurice Manassen and Ilan Kon decided to keep SKIJAR going as an organisation and to organise the next trip. In 2007 SKIJAR became even more international with 80 participants from 15 countries, including The Netherlans, the Russia, Australia and even Mexico. To organise such an event there are conditions that can’t be met by the current organisation (IJAR) which is why Maurice and Ilan decided to set op a separate legal entity to guarantee the continuity of SKIJAR. On 18 April 2006 the SKIJAR Foundation was set up in order to guarantee the continuity and the ongoing success of IJAR and SKIJAR. The SKIJAR Foundation will always have close ties to IJAR.
