About Science Café Nijmegen

The Science Café is a hangout for scientists and science lovers. Scientists come to share their expertise and passion, and visitors can engage with them over a drink. It’s a space to experience the fascination of science, explore new topics, and exchange or gather knowledge, opinions, and ideas.

Science Cafés are a global grassroots movement that originated in France and England in the late 1990s. Inspired by the French Bars des Sciences, Stichting Science Café Nijmegen was founded in September 2004 to introduce this phenomenon to the Netherlands and to give Nijmegen a public platform for science.

Science Café Nijmegen hosts leading scientists about once a month to discuss a variety of fascinating, current, and relevant topics and there is live music. Events are held at the Irish pub The Shamrock and alternate between Dutch and English.

Het Science Café is een ontmoetingsplaats voor wetenschappers en wetenschapsliefhebbers. Wetenschappers komen hier spreken over hun expertise en passie, bezoekers gaan met hen in gesprek bij een drankje. Je kunt er de fascinatie van wetenschap beleven, nieuwe onderwerpen verkennen en kennis, meningen en ideeën opdoen of delen.

Science Café's vormen een wereldwijde grassroots beweging die zijn oorsprong heeft eind jaren ‘90 in Frankrijk en Engeland. Geïnspireerd op de Franse Bars des Sciences is in september 2004 Stichting Science Café Nijmegen opgericht om dit fenomeen ook in Nederland te introduceren en Nijmegen haar publieke podium voor wetenschap te geven.

Science Café Nijmegen heeft ongeveer maandelijks vooraanstaande wetenschappers te gast over uiteenlopende fascinerende, nieuwe, relevante onderwerpen én er is live muziek. Locatie is Ierse pub The Shamrock. De avonden zijn afwisselend in het Nederlands en in het Engels.
