About Refugee VI Foundation
The Refugee VI Foundation was founded in December of 2009 and is registered as a non-profit organization in Capelle aan de Ijssel. Origin of the Refugee VI Foundation It was the dream of Ephraim Ntlamo, a seventeen year old refugee from Zimbabwe, that started all of this. Ephraim wanted to start a soccer team in South Africa, so that he could play soccer together with other refugees. He found a partner, Maarten van 't Hof and within three weeks the team, consisting of eight players was training. The was called the Refugee VI Football club. The VI represented the six nations where most of the refugees in South Africa originated: Angola, Burundi, Congo, Rwanda, Somalia and Zimbabwe. Once he got back to the Netherlands, Maarten told the people around him about the soccer team and many of them donated soccer balls and shoes. All the excited responses to his and Ephraim's initiative motivated Maarten to start the foundation, so that sponsors found to support the project. Now the refugees in the soccer team are proudly playing on a regular basis and are enjoying themselves a lot. It is amazing to see them so excited and happy and this motivates us, the people in the foundation. We hope to be able to keep supporting refugees in South Africa and hopefully in other countries too!
