About Ochakai

We go into neighbourhoods, sit with residents, and find out what is happening.

Then we help the organisations that shape those neighbourhoods understand what we found.

Cities are full of people who feel invisible in the places they live. Not because communities do not exist, but because the conditions for them are rarely designed. We work to understand what those conditions actually are, and what gets in the way.

We work with housing providers, municipalities, and urban organisations who want to understand what is genuinely happening at street level, and what that means for the spaces and programmes they design.

We do this by gathering in apartment buildings, local parks, and community spaces, using the act of sharing tea to bring people closer. Ochakai is a practice of connection, making where you live feel more like home.

We gaan buurten in, zitten met bewoners, en ontdekken wat er werkelijk speelt. Daarna helpen we de organisaties die die buurten vormgeven te begrijpen wat we hebben gevonden.

Steden zijn vol mensen die zich onzichtbaar voelen in de plek waar ze wonen. Niet omdat gemeenschappen niet bestaan, maar omdat de voorwaarden daarvoor zelden worden ontworpen. We onderzoeken wat die voorwaarden werkelijk zijn, en wat eraan in de weg staat.

We werken met woningcorporaties, gemeenten en stedelijke organisaties die willen begrijpen wat er werkelijk speelt op straatniveau, en wat dat betekent voor de ruimtes en programma's die zij ontwerpen.

Dit doen we door samen te komen in appartementengebouwen, parken en buurtruimtes, en thee te delen met de mensen die er wonen. Ochakai is een oefening in verbinding, die de plek waar je woont meer als thuis laat voelen.
