About Nihon no hanga
The Nihon no hanga collection includes over 2000 Japanese prints of which 90% dates from the 20th century. Nihon no hanga has as its goal to provide a comprehensive overview of the developments in 20th century Japanese print production. Twice a year we produce an exhibition exploring a variety of themes, accompanied by an exhibition catalogue. Our largest publication featuring the two main movements of 20th century Japanese printmaking titled 'Waves of renewal: modern Japanese prints 1900 to 1960' was released in 2016 and shown at the Fondation Baur in Geneva. Later that year the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam organised an exhibition titled 'Japan Modern' with prints from the collection. In the winter of 2018-2019, Waves of renewal (or Vagues de renouveau) was on display at the Fondation Custodia in Paris. Nihon no hanga is open to the public with a new exhibition every May and November.
