Het Niemeijer Fonds richt zich voornamelijk op kunstenaars veelal in het begin van hun carrière of waar het fonds een bijdrage kan leveren aan een nieuwe ontwikkeling in iemands loopbaan. Sinds 2012 is het Niemeijer Fonds gestart met de Theodora Niemeijer Prijs, een prijs speciaal voor vrouwelijke beeldende kunstenaars omdat zij nog steeds ondervertegenwoordigd zijn in de kunstwereld.
