De NVHT streeft naar een krachtenbundeling tussen de disciplines die zich bezig houden met handtherapie. Samenwerking en uitwisseling van kennis en ervaring moet ertoe leiden dat de handtherapie naar een hoger niveau wordt gebracht. Er wordt dan ook bewust gestreefd naar integratie van meer disciplines dan alleen ergo- en fysiotherapie.
