As a medical equipment manufacturer working closely with clinical partners, Mellon Medical identified that even when surgeons follow established guidelines, achieving reliable and repeatable suturing across all layers of the abdominal wall is not always straightforward. Variations in ergonomics, tissue conditions and access can influence closure quality and contribute to complications such as wound infection or long‑term failure.

This insight led to the development of a dedicated suture assisting device the Switch® focused on supporting controlled, consistent placement of sutures during abdominal closure. The device is engineered to integrate into existing surgical workflows, supporting best‑practice suturing without altering established techniques.
