About Keuris Compsers Contest

Keuris Composers Contest is an international biannual competition for composers based in the Netherlands. The focus of the competition is modern chamber and orchestral music written for youth and advanced young amateur musicians. As a distinguished post WW 2 Dutch composer, Tristan Keuris was known for his innovative approach to music and collaborations with many young composers throughout his career. Amersfoort town is proud to host the 3rd edition of the Keuris Composers Contest to honour one of its most prominent citizens with a world-renowned legacy for generations to come.

With its 3rd edition coming up in May 2018, the competition will include categories for symphonic orchestra and chamber music ensemble. Under the artistic direction of Henry Kelder, the Keuris Composers Contest wishes to bring to the public attention challenges of the youth nowadays intensified and told through the classical music medium with a wink to the entertainment world. Diverse styles and unique expressions are encouraged and eagerly expected.

This is a worldwide unique competition that combines a specifically tailor-made chamber music pre-selection rounds where young non-professional musicians up to 21 years of age will be chosen to form three ensembles to perform commissioned pieces on the final concert presentation. These young musicians will get the chance to play side-by-side with professional musicians as well as to work with the composers themselves during the workshop days preceding the final evening when the winning compositions will be announced. Amersfoort Youth Orchestra will be premiering the winning symphonic pieces at the closing concert on 12th of May, 2018 in de Flint in Amersfoort. Keuris Composers Contest is a competition open to composers of all genders, nationalities and ages.
