Keetwonen is name of student housing project in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Built in 2004 and consisting of 1000 student homes based on converted shipping containers is was a unique project, introducing this new way of creating homes. From day 1 all homes were rented out: the spacious and comfy apartments were the biggest one could get in Amsterdam for less than 400 Euro's per month. Developed as a quick fix to address the urgent need for student homes in Amsterdam, it was originally built for only 5 years and then extended to 10 years. End of 2017, the last students will move out and the entire container village will be dismantled and sold for rebuilding on a new location.
