About International Holocaust Remembrance Day The Hague
The Holocaust was a turning point in history, which prompted the world to say “never again”. The United Nations General Assembly designated the 27th of January (Resolution 60/7) as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In 2006 the first International Holocaust Remembrance Day took place, and ever since this day special ceremonies are held at United Nation Offices in New York, Genève and other cities around the world.
The Hague is a capitol of International Law, home of the International Court of Justice, International Criminal Court, Permanent Court of Justice and until recently the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. As being the center for International Law, The Hague should also mark the importance of remembering the Holocaust. Therefore CHAJ (Cultural foundation of the Jewish Community of The Hague) has taken the initiative to organize the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day The Hague.
Together with the Municipality of The Hague and the Embassy of Israel in the Netherlands, the Jewish cultural organisation CHAJ has initiated for the sixth time an International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration event, a Lecture, which will take place online on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 15:45 hours.
Keynote address: ‘The Holocaust and the Age of Rights’ Delivered by: Professor Tom Ginsburg The Leo Spitz Distinguished Service Professor of International Law and Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago.
Additional Information: Registration for the event will open on January 8, 2024.
