About Institute for Societal Resilience - VU Amsterdam

Within the Institute for Societal Resilience (ISR), the faculty research institute of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, scientists from our various social science disciplines (administrative science, political science, communication science, organizational science, social and cultural anthropology and sociology) work together on complex social issues. They do so in co-creation with government, business, knowledge institutions and civil society organizations in order to apply the newly developed knowledge as directly as possible in practice.

Binnen het Institute for Societal Resilience (ISR), het facultaire onderzoeksinstituut van de Faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen van de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, werken wetenschappers uit onze verschillende sociaalwetenschappelijke disciplines (bestuurswetenschap, politicologie, communicatiewetenschap, organisatiewetenschappen, sociale en culturele antropologie en sociologie) met elkaar aan complexe maatschappelijke vraagstukken. Dat doen zij in co-creatie met de overheid, het bedrijfsleven, kennisinstellingen en maatschappelijke organisaties om de nieuw ontwikkelde kennis zo direct mogelijk toe te passen in de praktijk.

Inhoudelijk onderscheiden we ons in onze focus op ‘societal resilience’ of veerkracht. Deze focus komt voort uit de vraag of samenlevingen veerkrachtig (resilient) genoeg zijn om met de vele complexe maatschappelijke uitdagingen van vandaag en de toekomst om te gaan.
