About Heartwood Architecture

I am Adam Osterhoff, AIA, and I founded Heartwood Architecture in 2005. The first seed was planted during an apprenticeship as a carpenter building houses in the Rocky Mountains. This work supported a passion for playing in the outdoors, hiking, skiing, and climbing, and supplemented my formal education in Environmental Design at the University of Colorado. After 20 years, and nearly 150 architectural projects, I am still drawing aesthetic inspiration from the alpine spaces that I love, now with the experienced technical acumen of sustainable design and construction principles.

I have had the opportunity to contribute to projects across a range of cultural landscapes as well, from new homes on the Hopi Native American Nation, tech office spaces in Cartagena, Columbia, and community gathering spaces in Taksindu, Nepal. I am currently living in Amsterdam, actively supporting environmentally conscious building communities in the US and in the EU.

My professional aim is to make the built environment work in harmony with its natural surroundings. I make mountain huts and alpine communities more sustainable with conscious remodels.
