About Foundation for Public Code
The Foundation for Public Code helps public organisations develop and maintain software and policy together. This results in higher quality services for the public that are more cost effective, with less risk and more local control.
We define ‘public code’ as open source software developed by and for public organisations, along with the policy and guidance needed for reuse.
We do this in 2 ways: - We build community for sharing proven software solutions developed by public organisations, including maintenance, guidance, community management and advocacy - we call this codebase stewardship. - We make sure code is reusable. The Standard for Public Code gives public organisations a model for building their own open source solutions to enable successful future reuse elsewhere. It includes guidance for policy makers, managers, designers, developers and vendors.
Together, we’re growing an ecosystem of open public-purpose software and policy.
To achieve this we maintain, manage, contribute to and grow an ecosystem of public software and policies that help governments, communities and citizens improve their city.
