About FairWater Foundation
FairWater, BlueZones and the BluePump deal with the following issues. Most people are now concerned about accountability and effectiveness of Development Aid. Also water projects did not deliver good results; water pumps keep breaking down and repairs are complicated and expensive. Therefore especially poor people still suffer and over 50% still has no access to sufficient safe water nearby. Donors want more accountability and water projects should be more sustainable. But this is easier said than done. FairWater has developed a sustainable solution to solve these problems. First of all, FairWater projects are evidence based and donors know exactly how and where their funding is used. Secondly, FairWater projects replace broken handpumps with he durable Dutch BluePump, installed and maintained by the local private sector. Therefore FairWater projects do not only deliver sustainable & safe water at a fair and affordable price, but also create local jobs and prosperity. FairWater started in 2003 in Kenya when Paul van Beers was the managing director of the Rural Water Development Project (RWD) in Kisii, one of the largest and most successful water projects in Kenya. RWD provided over 1.500 water points to local communities. Inspired by the positive attitude of the staff of RWD, the basic ideas of FairWater (transparency, accountability & sustainability) was developed and he continued this passion later on, when working for other organizations. see www.fairwater.org
