The European Commission and all national authorities have made several pledges towards a net-zero environment in 2050, with intermediate goals in 2030: fitfor55.

The urban environment, such as offices, houses and other structures, have a major influence on the potential succes of these goals. Buildings are responsible for 40% of global annual emissions – and the adoption of smart glass can and should be a part of your strategy.

“Smart Glass” is quite broad. Many people and sources make smart glass synonymous for “electrochromic glass” or “switchable glass” in a broader sense. But there is much more that makes glass smart – but not just changing its transmission level.

We describe smart glass, for the purpose of this association, as follows: “A transparant structure with enhanced capabilities, such as noise-cancellation, sensor-enhancement, switchable (active and passive) and transparant solar. These functions could be, but do not need to be, combined.”

Who should be a member of the ESGIA? The field is diverse – yet specific. We warmly welcome any company: 1. Architects & engineers. You specify the needs from the end-customer. 2. Glass Manufacturers. 3. System Integrators 4. Smart Home – companies 5. Developers and manufacturers of the “smart glass” technologies as described above.

The ESGIA is an Association in its inception. We are working on finalizing our Founding Members, drafting & finalizing the paper work and creating this website. However: the sooner you get yourselves involved, the better!
