About Elvedes bike components

Founded by Lourens van der Spruijt back in 1965, Elvedes started their journey with a bang, right after getting registered at the Chamber of Commerce. The very next day, we were already sending out our first invoice to Staals, a bike specialist in Utrecht. Initially, we supplied everything from moped parts like sprockets and pistons to buddy seats and super-high handlebars, directly to retail stores. It wasn’t long before our high handlebars created a buzz and sparked the need for extra-long cables. Alongside, there was a surge in demand for bicycle and industrial cables too.

Van der Spruijt saw the opportunity and zoomed in on it, making cables our main gig for both the two-wheeler industry and beyond by 1977. To stand out in the market, we introduced the world to our brand name, Elvedes, which has since been making its way from wholesalers to retailers. Over time, Elvedes has grown to be a household name amongst bicycle mechanics around the Benelux.

Fast forward to 2002, the reins were handed over to Carl and Peter, Lourens’ sons, who took it upon themselves to propel Elvedes and its legacy forward. Now, almost 60 years since we first started, Elvedes is a thriving family business with an ever-growing footprint across Europe.
