About DE MEULEMEESTER BV
The rich history of De Meulemeester dates back to 1870. Founder Charles de Meulemeester, originally a brewer from the city of Goes, recognized a unique opportunity in artificial oyster cultivation, a true industry first. What started at the ‘Kop van ’t Hoofd’ in Bergen op Zoom moved to Yerseke in 1907, drawn by the region’s superior water quality.
In the decades that followed, De Meulemeester evolved into an international specialist. In 1946, we expanded our assortment with Norwegian lobster, followed by the introduction of Canadian lobster in 1963. The company’s growth continued, and from 1996 onwards, it was led by the De Koeijer family. Under the leadership of Sas de Koeijer and his sons, De Meulemeester became a name synonymous with trust, craftsmanship, and local pride.
A new chapter began in 2025 following the acquisition by Adri & Zoon, another family business based in Yerseke. This safeguards our expertise for the future. Today, we bridge our rich heritage with modern technology.
While we continue to expand, our core remains unchanged: craftsmanship, quality, and a profound passion for the treasures of the sea.
