This e-learning course has a duration of three months. It covers the salient features of the classical music of southern India - known as 'Karnataka Sangitam' in India, and Carnatic (Karnatic) music in the English speaking world. Participants explore new ways of getting involved in Carnatic music in addition to other aspects of South India's rich and varied culture. This entails personalized interaction among participants, experts and the course tutor. Therefore we prefer the internationally acclaimed Moodle course management system. An early bird offer includes a copy of The Oxford Illustrated Companion to South Indian Classical Music – authored by the course founder – as text book (valid until 31 July 2009 for the new course starting in September). Special and compact courses are again available: in conjunction with academic and cultural institutions, such courses are either hosted within the present course format or adapted to meet the syllabus requirements of a particular institution (e.g. university music department, world music school or high school music courses with focus on India). Registered participants receive an authoritative, convenient to use text and reference book: The Oxford Illustrated Companion to South Indian Classical Music (2nd revised edition, 2009).
