About Bogdan Cornea

Lectures and Guided Tours Travel can be such a lasting form of education. It can be done meaningful and mindful. I make a point of creating lectures and tours that offer a memorable experience for those curious about art and culture.

My interest in Late-Medieval and Early-Modern Art does not necessarily mean that my tours and lectures are restricting to the mere contextualisation of art in its own historical time. Whether looking at a medieval altarpiece, a Bernini sculpture, or a Rembrandt portrait, I am happy to explore their lasting relevance in today’s modern world. Think for instance of the electrifying influence Caravaggio’s paintings had over filmmaker Derek Jarman; the importance of medieval cathedrals to the 1920s Bauhaus movement; the parallels between Renaissance altarpieces and modern preoccupations with surface and structure – all connections that I relish to make and discuss with my audience.

I am always inspired by the conversations that seem to naturally occur during my lectures and tours for I aim to provide new perspectives and often untold stories. Thus I seek to offer an engagement with art that is not only grounded in historical facts but also in our shared values as creators and storytellers.
