Olivine, one of Earth’s most naturally abundant minerals, captures CO₂ through mineral carbonation, locking it into stable carbonates for millennia. While this process occurs naturally, it is slow and self-limiting, as only the outer surface of the mineral reacts, drastically reducing its efficiency.
