Sinds 1997 staat Lightning Leiden bekend als de American Football vereniging van de stad Leiden en omgeving. De vereniging streeft er te allen tijden naar, de sport American football te spelen op het hoogst haalbare niveau. De vereniging wordt gevormd door een sociale en eensgezinde club sportieve mensen die gezamenlijk streven naar gezelligheid, sportiviteit en prestaties.
