This young company is founded at the University of Twente and located in Enschede, The Netherlands. The mayor activities of 1588 consist of product development, engineering and consultancy with the focus on cost reducing solutions in the photovoltaics and concentrated solar power market. The products of 1588 are innovative solutions for Solar Tracking Systems and Heliostat Systems which lower the Balance of Systems cost in utility scale photovoltaic power plants and concentrated solar power plants. Utility scale photovoltaic power stations are being build rapidly in the last decade, capital costs have fallen significantly and are expected to progressively reach grid parity. By rotating solar modules towards the sun their efficiency can be improved up to 40% over a fixed solution. One of our inventions consist of a cost competitive actuator for rotating solar modules, compared to the conventional linear actuators or hydraulic systems which are currently used.
