Over Wooden Shoe Factory Marken

You can visit the Wooden Shoe Factory Marken in the typical Dutch village of Marken. 20 minutes by car or bus from Amsterdam. Or you can come by boat from Volendam (30 min). The beautiful (former) island of Marken was connected to the mainland by a dike in 1957, but it still breathes the atmosphere of an old Dutch fishing village with its 140 monumental buildings. It is also possible to visit us with tour operators such as: tours & tickets, and see old holland.

Next to the parking lot you will find the wooden shoe factory. Here you can watch a local traditional clog maker transform a simple block of wood into a clog in minutes. To make the clogs, we use old machines from 1906. We even have a working steam engine from 1913 to power the clog machines the old fashioned way. You can also take a look at our wooden shoe museum with all kinds of old and special clogs.
