For years I have had a passion for beautiful, natural and pure products. May 2021, a formulator friend gifted me a full paper copy of his 1955 Pharmaceutical Encyclopedia. With the appropriate subtitle ‘Containing all data regarding the origin, composition and use of the most common drugstore products, chemicals and medicines’.

Wow! In the past, all formulations were public and every druggist or pharmacist made their own arnica ointment, calendula cream and warming balm. And just sold it over the counter. For a few cents.

Give her an encyclopedia, 24 hours a day and access to a formulator from the time of Van Toen and the challenge was born: “Can we recreate the products as they were originally intended, but in a 2.0 version, so packed with active ingredients but 100% plant-based?”
