Over Transculturalia
In structuring the profile of the Transculturalia foundation, we considered activities meant to make known the depths of the Romanian spirit: presenting our traditions and customs, creating a Romanian weekend school, including communication courses in Romanian, setting up a library – we are already in possession of over 500 copies of valuable books from Romanian, Dutch, French and English literature, cooking workshops respecting traditional recipes. We also want to initiate a calligraphy course, debates on various topics of general interest, but also a cross-cultural journal, in which any individual experience in the flow of adaptation, integration and reintegration can be shared. These are all activities through which we can establish a continuous communication, based on reflection, which aims to accept or reject the other’s ideas, in a friendly and generous environment. The choice of the name of the foundation, Transculturalia, comes from assuming the reality that today’s multicultural society, the one we live in, will become a transcultural society, not a society without differences, but one of enriched differences, and still of smaller, infinitesimal differences on a large scale of closeness between us. Transculturalism, hence the name Transculturalia, is not a simple variation from multiculturalism or interculturalism, a change of prefix. If multiculturalism focuses on the differences within a society, and interculturalism on the differences and exchanges between different cultures, transculturalism focuses on the inner difference, within the personally assumed identity.
