Over Tijl Orlando Frijns

I approach artworks as objects. They are related to other works, have their own narrative qualities and contribute to the whole. I try to deal with both the formal issues related to the artwork and the (sometimes romantic) content of the works. I often place the works in an installation-like form that resembles a décor or a kind of apparent reality that often has architectural properties. I find it interesting that something like an art form, lets say theatre, can become an element in, or even some kind of material a work of art consists of. In the same way an art movement like Suprematism can be used as a material as I suppose everything can. Participating in residencies or working periods has been important to develop my work because there are often fellow artists, designers or otherwise interesting people to connect with. Recently I developed a website, www.submarinejungle.com, where artists can offer work. It also contains a digital online exhibition space where there is currently the first group exhibition of eight artists. The idea is that artists create work specifically for this digital environment where other laws apply than for example our dimensional ones.
