The Green Elephant aims to develop an environmentally responsible, ecologically sustainable and economical biomass industry in Uganda. The Green Elephant is are dedicated to producing safe, clean, cheap and renewable fuel. Because of the damaging effects of cooking on firewood and charcoal, the Green Elephant aims to provide the people of Uganda with a clean, safe and cheap fuel alternative in the form of briquettes and pelletes. These briquettes and pellettes will be made of locally sourced raw materials that are left over from certain production processes and woud otherwise be discarded.

The Green Elephant Foundation, a separate and non-profit organisation, is tasked with securing funding to distribute high efficiency, very low emission gasifier stoves. The optimal combination of available technology (efficient stoves and pellets), greatly reduces the impact of HAP and enables the achievement of a number of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) created by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and ratified by more than 180 countries.

This way, we can make a meaningful contribution to the reduction of HAP (household air pollution) related illnesses and deaths, prevent massive de-forestation, reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses and limit the risk of women becoming victims of gender-based violence during the fuel collection process.
