Talpe Temple School Foundation provides education & learning opportunities to the children, monks & villagers of Talpe, nr Galle, South Sri Lanka. The Foundation was founded by Eugene Bay & Matthieu Sosef in 2005. They had been holidaying on Sri Lanka's idyllic south coast when the devastating 2004 Asian tsunami hit. They took refuge in Talpe's Temple along with locals & other tourists. The days they were cared for there created a lasting bond. Together with the High Priest, a school was built & an otherwise unaffordable early learning opportunity has operated in Talpe for 3-5 year-olds. 165 children have graduated to date. In 2009, an expansion program was begun & a two storey, purpose-built education facility will officially open in May 2011. Thereafter & pending donations of funding & equipment, a full education program will be arranged to benefit of all villagers in Talpe.
