The Dutch Poker Association recognise and support the goals of the Dutch gaming policy: contravening addiction, protecting the consumer and contravening illegal and criminal activities related to poker. However, the Dutch Poker Association strongly questions the efficiency of the current policies on poker in regard to these same goals. In light of the explosive growth of poker enthusiasts it is legitimate to speak of a social phenomenon to which the hopelessly dated policy has no good answer. The unique position of the Dutch Poker Association and the successful results of it’s efforts up till now are largely due to the independent strategy and the legal character of the organisation. We have noticed that there is a enormous gap between the apparent playing needs and the very limited legal offer. We also strive for a discussion, whether political, public or legal, based on valid arguments.
