Over Stichting La Sonrisa Naranja

Stichting La Sonrisa Naranja (2007, ANBI) is the Dutch NGO behind the a medical center in El Barrio Horizontes del Fortin, an impoverished neighborhood in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The goal of the center is to deliver medical care to people that normally would not be able to afford it. In doing so, starting point is that everyone receives the necessary care and pays to financial capacity (to be judged by the doctor). The medical center of La Sonrisa Naranja houses a general practitioner, dentist, gynecologist, pharmacy and medical lab.

Besides the medical care, the foundation invests in structurally improving the health conditions in the neighborhood. There are promo-days on which people are offered free medical examinations and receive education about themes like drugs, HIV and prevention of diseases like dengue. In addition, the foundation organizes activities that develop and strengthen the kids and youth.
