SIGN is an innovation accelerator in the horticulture sector dedicated to advancing sustainable practices and value chains in and outside the greenhouses. Our mission is to inspire and mobilize businesses by creating new perspectives on circular innovation while organizing pilots to test and scale these ideas in real-world settings.

Through our Circular Horticulture Program (2021-2025), we tackle the sustainability challenges of today, including the circular use of resources, climate neutrality, biodiversity, and healthy food systems.

One of SIGN’s endeavours is the SIGN Living Lab. Currently located in Bleiswijk Dijkshoorn Recycling in Bleiswijk, the lab serves as a collaborative space where circular solutions for the horticulture industry are developed and tested. At the Living Lab, students, entrepreneurs, designers, and researchers explore creative ways to repurpose and upcycle biomatter fresh out of the greenhouses, such as transforming plant fibers into durable, biobased construction materials or converting wet organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizers.

By stimulating partnerships with government bodies, industry leaders, academic institutions, and entrepreneurs, SIGN plays a pivotal role in accelerating the transition to a circular horticulture industry.
