Over Spirit Hunt Game

Spirit Hunt is a start-up created by a group of six students from Windesheim University of Applied Sciences (Zwolle, Netherlands).

The concept will consist of an app which allows users to play the old fashioned game ‘Hide & Seek’ in a new digital jacket. Aside from the basics of Hide & Seek it will have extensions which will contribute to motivate the users to keep playing the app. These extensions will include power-ups for players to collect and use, a radar to spot the ‘enemy’ and different game modes for players to choose from. The app will be completed by June 2017.

The app will not contain more function than initially set in our functional and/or technical designs. We will set our app language in English as the main language, there will not be any more translations during the period of our minor.

The Spirit Hunt game wants the players to stand up and go outside their houses. It wants to solve the increasing problem of children spending most of their time playing video games or browsing social media in their homes without any real “human” interaction. Spirit Hunt will be a real-life game, which requires moving around and making real, human contact. Players will be able to touch their target and will meet them face-to-face. With this game, we want to overcome the sedentariness which is quickly rising in our current society.

Looking at the recent trend which was created by Pokémon Go to get players outside and play with others, we think we can realise this same effect by creating our app. Because our app uses the same motivational factors as Pokémon Go, which includes making players go outside to participate in our game and the reward they will receive for that should motivate them to continue playing. We also will appeal to the childhood of our customers using a game many of us used to play as kids, called Hide and Seek. We will use this well-known game to make it easy to our users to decide to get involved and start playing.
