Sky Shuttle Plane, SSP, is developing a hybrid aircraft capable of being a true game-changer in the transport industry. Based on a novel twin-wing modular design and propelled by solar-powered electric motors, the SSP enjoys tremendous energy efficiency, an almost nil carbon footprint and extremely low atmospheric and acoustic emissions. The SSP concept brings together the buoyancy of a lighter-than-air airship, the aerodynamic lift of a flying wing and the flexibility of a tilt-rotor, basically combining the best of present airplanes, helicopters and airships. Thanks to its hybrid design, the SSP can perform vertical take-off and landing, ascend, descend and hover in mid-air like conventional airships and helicopters, while being capable of transoceanic ranges at a cruise speed of 250 km/h. This means flying heavy payloads door-to-door to the most inaccessible locations, operating independently from airports and landing strips. Finally, the SSP is based on a unique modular layout making use of just four standardised modules to assemble the different variants, ranging in size from a few tens of meters to over 200 m. The list of potential applications is virtually endless: cargo and passenger transport, firefighting, emergency response, disaster relief, delivery of bulky loads to remote areas, environmental protection, search and rescue, high-altitude communication relay, multi-sensor surveillance, remote sensing and many more. We are convinced that the SSP has the potential of realising disruptive improvements in terms of sustainability, efficiency, performance and versatility respect to present air as well as ground and sea logistic systems. We are currently seeking seed money for flying the SSP model by May 2016 and build the momentum we need to create a fully functional proof of concept by 2017, followed by a full scale prototype the following year and reach initial production in 2020.
