Over SIOS - Student Initiative for Open Science

SIOS is a student initiative to promote open and transparent science. Over the last decade, different scientific areas has struggled to replicate previous findings. This led to the question of how much of the literature we read on a daily basis is truly reliable and valid. The Open Science Movement has revealed many flaws in scientific practices, such as researchers’ biases and wrongful claims. The movement advocates more transparent, honest, and reliable science that can be replicated and validated. Our initiative wants to bring these Open Science practices closer to the students. We are the next generation of researchers after all. Often, however, students aren’t taught about these issues or don’t know how they apply to them. With SIOS, we attempt to spread the ideals and values of the Open Science movement among students and show them how we can use strategies, such as “Pre-registration” and “Open Data” within our own academic work.
