Over Sailors for Sustainability Foundation

Two sailors, Ivar Smits and Floris van Hees, chronicled their 8-year sailing trip around the world in search of sustainable solutions for humanity and our planet. The route took them around the world to sustainable solutions that work in practice.

The Sailors for Sustainability Foundation enables them to research, visit, and report the solutions via various media channels. By sharing the solutions, they provide their readers and followers with the concepts and practical tools to make sustainable changes in their own communities.

The sailors completed their circumnavigation in the fall of 2024 but their mission continues. They published a book: Overstag - Zeilend naar een duurzame toekomst. In it, they describe the stunning landscapes they discovered but also the threats to our planet that they witnessed, such as pollution, poverty, and climate breakdown. Still, the many sustainable solutions they documented, including the worldviews of indigenous peoples, left them hopeful that humanity can solve today's challenges, if we change course!
