Rewild Pangaea is a next-generation nature and circular-economy project developer working on post-mining land. We show that restoration is not a cost but a driver of long-term value creation.

Our first project is on South Africa’s forgotten Diamond Coast, a biodiversity hotspot scarred by a century of extraction. As the diamond mines close, we are working with the indigenous Nama people — who won a landmark land-restitution case in 2003 but remain in deep poverty — to build a post-mining economy grounded in nature.

The initiative begins with the restoration of 10,000 hectares of communal land, turning degraded liabilities into productive natural assets. The resulting ecosystem services include richer biodiversity, carbon removal, cleaner air from reduced dust, increased water supply, higher agricultural and grazing yields, greater drought resilience, and renewed indigenous land stewardship.

Rewild Pangaea’s model links ecological restoration with local reinvestment. By unlocking the full economic value of restored land, including through high-integrity nature credits, we channel 60% of all project returns back into the community. These funds help diversify the local economy: expanding solar power, developing a coastal bioeconomy based on kelp fertiliser and livestock feed, and scaling community-owned farms that strengthen food security.

By transforming degraded mining land into living, productive ecosystems, Rewild Pangaea is on a mission to turn the legacy of extraction into reinvestment, renewal, and abundance.
