Over Maastricht University: Party of the Academic Staff

The Party of the Academic Staff looks after the wellbeing and interests of the academic staff and the broader university community. Our driving force is to keep improving the conditions for education and research at our university, which takes time and effort. We unite staff from across the university to serve our shared interests.

Our main points:

Stimulate healthy and safe workplaces with a focus on work-life balance in a safe working environment with flexible working arrangements. Bring work pressure back to acceptable levels in all faculties and service centers.

Reduce and optimize our administrative workflow. Get rid of unproductive rules and procedures that go at the expense of where our heart lies: education and research. We should be able to rely on sufficient administrative support and an IT environment that actually enables us to make efficient use of it.

Recognize and reward all of our academic efforts, in teams, in education, in management, in research, and in societal impact and outreach. It is the mix that counts. Let faculties learn from each other, despite different needs and cultures.

Create transparent career opportunities for all job levels and ages, be it full-time or part-time, in a healthy balance with staff flexibility. Let our talents, which we all have, be leading for career development and ensure diversity and inclusivity when doing so.

Go for a 2030 digital vision and strategy: transform the digital experience of staff and students in education, research, and administrative support.

Shortening the academic year is relevant, but not self-evident: it requires open and transparent UM-wide deliberation if we are to succeed in ensuring our educational programmes’ quality and reducing our workload.

Have open discussions at UM and faculty levels whenever possible, while respecting that in a professional environment not all is suited to be shared in public.
