Il Pozzo is an authentic Italian establishment, a real institution in Utrecht. It is the first restaurant ever to have opened its doors in the cellars of the Oudegracht aan de Werf and is one of the largest Italian restaurants in the Netherlands, with its 300 seats inside and 350 on the terrace. In 1978 Mario Nistro came up with the brilliant idea of using the wharf cellars for the catering industry. In doing so he left an indelible mark on the centre of Utrecht, so much so that countless restaurateurs followed his example. In 2004, Il Pozzo was taken over by Ali "Alex" Çelik. Together with four members of his family, he has designed and implemented a global concept that attracts guests from all over the world: the dishes, the hospitality and the whole interior (from the furniture to the music) are authentic Italian elements. Il Pozzo has also been a pioneer of healthy and seasonal salads and meat and fish dishes, distinguishing itself from other Italian restaurants in the whole country.

We are about to face the new terrace season with a lot of enthusiasm and a great desire to grow again and again. Through research conducted together by Alex and our new manager Enrico Cioccolini (born and raised in Rome, where he developed his decades of experience both in organising large events and in the catering industry), we are designing a renewed menu with the top trend of authentic Italian cuisine. It starts with pasta and pizza, the great protagonists of Italian cuisine, and continues to expand the section of salads and healthy dishes. Then, keeping an attentive eye on the growing demand for food and drink of controlled and protected origin, we focused on proposals dedicated to vegetarians and vegans, as well as an assortment that takes into account allergies and intolerances, without having to give up the scents and flavours of Mediterranean cuisine.
