The United States Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an award-winning program that challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and architecturally-attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. We as Selficient, students from the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, participate in this contest with a team of 20 members from four different studies; Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. We worked our way to the finals which means we are going to build our house in the U.S. and compete against 15 other chosen teams from different universities all around the world. Our vision is to create a house that is self-sufficient, modular, affordable, attractive and built out of circular materials.
